“I will speak the truth in the name of the guy who died by covering my child’s body. How I will look into the eyes of my children, if I deceive now. It is my duty to tell the truth now. ”
After almost two months after the start of the trial of the “Akromists”, the witness Makhbuba Zokirova was summoned to the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan. This young woman from the village of Hakan with incomplete secondary education unexpectedly for all denied the testimony of other witnesses and began to tell what she had to go through on May 12 in Andijan. She, the only one of more than 100 witnesses questioned by the court, said she saw government troops firing at unarmed people.
“It was terrible shooting. I have no words to describe it. There was a lot of blood. We lay on the ground, blood was flowing before our eyes. For fear I did not understand what was happening. A lot of people died then. All fled in different directions, saving their lives from bullets. My three-year-old child was in the arms of a man, and in my arms was another eight-month-old child. The man fell, I do not know, maybe he was killed, my child was left under him. When I began to scream frantically, an unfamiliar guy brought the child to me. It was audible around how people were shooting, they were dying. Everyone is terrified, the children cry. I am not afraid of you, however, I am afraid when I recall those events. ”
Together with the crowd Zokirova fled to the border with Kyrgyzstan. “We removed the handkerchiefs, using them as white flags, we shouted that we had no weapons. Even Hitler did not shoot people with white flags, but they shot at us. ”
To the question of the prosecutor how she, a woman, can determine who exactly shot, Zokirova answered. “I clearly saw, twice. They were shooting from a car driving along the edge of the road; they were people in military uniforms and helmets. In addition, in Teshikutsh (border with Kyrgyzstan), when we walked, people in helmets on trees, shot, also from the windows of houses. ”
Saving a life, Makhbuba Zokirova reached Kyrgyzstan, where they were allowed to stay. There, she and her children were hospitalized. Two days later, the hokim of the district (head of the district administration), where she lived, the chairman of the mahalla (district) committee, her husband and brother Zokirova arrived in the hospital from Uzbekistan. Despite the resistance, according to the witness, she was forcibly returned home. Zokirova said that her two relatives, the brothers' wives, were also among the people who had fled to Kyrgyzstan. As you know, with the help of international organizations, refugees were transported to Romania.
The reaction of the public prosecutor was unequivocal. “From your testimony, it is clear that your close relatives who have not returned (to Uzbekistan) are members of“ akramists. ”
The next day, all the central newspapers published articles, from which it follows that Zokirova herself, being poisoned by the ideas of the acromists, intentionally distorted the events that occurred. This was a prepared role that the witness could not fulfill, local journalists say. There were no comments about the Western media, which ignore the testimony of other witnesses, but believe the words of an uneducated woman.
The court finished hearing the testimony of witnesses and victims, now the floor to lawyers and public prosecutors.
Meanwhile, Tashkent hosted the international conference "Security Problems of Central Asia", where it was stated that "A special threat to security and stability in Central Asia is attempts to export, promote a Western-style democracy."
