Empire powerlessness
Last Monday, diamonds shone in the Kremlin. No, Vladimir Putin did not hold a high society ball, and there was no demonstration of the products of the company “Diamonds of Russia - Sakha” (in common parlance “Alrosa”). Shine diamonds Turkmenbashi. The Turkmen president, as evidenced by the journalists who attended the protocol meeting of Samarmurat Niyazov and Vladimir Putin, tirelessly showed his rings and gray socks worn not by protocol under a strict formal suit.

Sectarian offensive
The former chief doctor of the district hospital Karamat Abdykadyrova left her native village, disillusioned with the Muslim faith. Her appeal to the Church of Jesus Christ irritated relatives: in protest, two son-in-laws left their families, the youngest daughter, a student at a university in Osh, demonstratively fulfills all the requirements of Islam - she reads namaz five times a day and wears hijab.

Доклад Human Rights Watch – 2006
Despite all the differences in the degree of democracy in the countries of Central Asia, the overall picture of the Report states the ongoing human rights crisis in each country. Moreover, the events in the region and the analysis of the main trends show that there is a significant setback in the observance of human rights by the authorities. Moreover, the emerging picture throughout the region is represented by a wide range of violations from mass killings of civilians in Uzbekistan, manifestations of racism in Turkmenistan to the suppression of civil society in Kazakhstan and the restriction of freedoms in the election process in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

Private hajj
The scandal ended in 2006 with a hajj for Muslims of Kyrgyzstan. The organization of pilgrimage in Kyrgyzstan is carried out by private entities related to the Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of the republic. Pilgrims who traveled by land through the Kazakh steppes and the Astrakhan region of Russia were late for the beginning of the pilgrimage from two to six days. According to Samar-ajy Berdiyev, it is necessary to arrive a week before the beginning of the Hajj. Pilgrims from Kyrgyzstan arrive right next to visiting Mount Arafat, having missed seven days of special prayer (tavof).

Pilgrims in captivity
The people call him Maruf-Handa. Handa is not his last name, it is the name of a Tajik satirical program and the Samarkand television theater group of the same name. Maruf there played a variety of images. Heroes - his contemporaries. In his roles, Tajik-speaking viewers recognized themselves, their neighbors, and most importantly their shortcomings. The viewers loved him.

Casting for investors
In the second half of January, the visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Islamic Republic of Iran ended. Regarding the political part of this visit, I would like to note the fact that it took place in an international situation that is not simple for Iran. The world community intends to discuss Iran’s nuclear program in the UN Security Council and adopt economic sanctions against this country. It should be noted that an invitation from the Iranian authorities to visit Tehran, Emomali Rakhmonov received to attend the summit of three Persian-speaking countries - Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

Hero: The place is vacant
The thematic issue of our magazine about national heroes (No. 17, 2005) turned out to be quite ambiguous. It published the materials of authors from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, which told about the national heroes of these countries, their associated myths and what role they played in the cultural, and not only, life of states. Often, it even turned out that some states specifically tried to invent such heroes for themselves in order to bring the historical basis to their present, and, if possible, to the future.

Safe sarin
More than a year ago, on June 11, 2004, by the decision of the Commission on Chemical Safety of the Republic of Tajikistan, the List of Chemicals and Biologicals Permitted for Use in the Republic of Tajikistan was approved. The list also contains a highly dangerous substance that is used as a chemical weapon - sarin.

How much is water?
Since gaining independence by the Central Asian states, mutual claims have been heard at various levels, heated debates and discussions on water issues have not ceased. It is not by chance that these problems are attributed by experts from law enforcement agencies of the Commonwealth countries to factors that negatively affect the strengthening of regional security and stability. They constantly create tensions not only between governments, but also citizens of the republics. The situation is complicated by the fact that the two main Central Asian rivers, the Amu Darya and the Syr Darya, are located in disputed transboundary zones.

Terrible lake
Russian and Uzbek experts warn of the danger that threatens several million people in Central Asia. If a strong earthquake happens in the central part of the Pamirs, the waters of Lake Sarez will flood large areas in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
